Guess What? Have you heard the news? Christmas is Only 94 Days Away! The Holiday Season is fast approaching!
Have you thought about gifts this year? Did you already purchase any?
Now the big Question for this Article:
Are you Going to Mail Any of them?
Chances are you will be mailing a few packages this year and in the coming years. You may already own a business that ships packages everyday or work for one who does.
Let us at Slap Me Some Green.com offer you a challenge.
It is a very simple one, and it will actually save you money all the while helping protect the environment.
When you ship any gift or merchandise you have to pad it with something for protection. Your choices generally are Styrofoam peanuts, quick inflatable disposable air pillows or rolls of brown packing paper. All of which you have to purchase and then they end up in a landfill. Who knows how long the Styrofoam and plastic pillows will last in the landfill? At least the paper will breakdown over time.
But you can still do better! You can do better for yourself, your business or your work. More importantly, you can do better for the Earth!
Every time you use one of the 3 packaging methods listed about, you are basically paying money to throw those items away. Packaging in a shipment is literally throwing cash in the trash.
We have all heard the saying reduce, reuse, recycle. Well, what we are about to propose covers all 3 of those areas.
We challenge all readers and supporters of Slap Me Some Green to instead of buying packaging materials, use YESTERDAYS NEWSPAPERS FOR YOUR PACKAGING.
1. REDUCE - It will reduce the amount of packaging materials people and businesses will have to buy in order to ship their products. (Reduce also means -- CUTS COSTS!)
2. REUSE - Instead of the newspaper being recycled or ending in the trash can, it is being reused one more time. Because you are reusing newspaper instead of package peanuts, you cutting back on the amount of packaging materials people throw away
3. RECYCLE - Once customers receive the packaging they can recycle it. They can also recycle the cardboard box it came in. (Unlike Styrofoam peanuts or plastic air pillows) For businesses this is huge. You can market that you packaging is 100% recyclable.
FOR BUSINESSES: Encourage your employees, you customers, and YOURSELF to bring newspaper into the shipment department and use old newspapers for your packaging. Offer discounts or incentives.
FOR PERSONAL USE: Save money on packaging supplies. (We've seen the prices when you only buy one box and padding at a time --OUCH)
The most important thing to remember here, is that you are reusing a product you were going to throw out or recycle. You gave it one more purpose before it was disposed of.
